That person has committed a legal crime and when the law is done with them, they will also be done with. Jesus may and will try to save them from that consequence, but if He can’t the law will set them free.
But if Jesus cannot save them then what does that say about who we think He is and what our relationship with Him looks like? We could be a rock or a sledge hammer when we are dealing with the law. The hammer can do nothing apart from what the law allows it to do, but our relationship to Jesus is different. We can turn the law into the legal hurdle it was originally intended to be, a stop gap until Jesus forgives a person. Our relationship is about grace, where as the law was about setting us free from the consequences.
