Kodi is a free, open-source (GPL), cross-platform media player developed and mantained by the XBMC Foundation, with the goal of providing users a platform to easily play media on their local device.
Kodi supports a wide variety of local and network devices, including media and add-ons. Kodi can be extended with add-ons that can perform common media tasks such as video and music playback, live TV, DVD and Blu-ray ripping, as well as home automation and networking features.
With the ability to group add-ons into collections, using the Collections feature of the Add-on Manager, users can organize their collections into folders. The more add-ons, movies, and shows a user has, the larger the TV collection can become. Some collections can include a library of add-ons not available on the official repository.

However, the Kodi media player, while powerful, does not have the ability to play or record live television. Users wishing to play live television have to use a separate application that supports this function. For most users, this will be the widely used Skype application.
While the software still has the ability to do lots of amazing stuff, it's definitely overdue a face-lift, and with some of the DJ hardware hitting the market now, the future looks bright for Virtual DJ.
