The Fundamentals of Engineering exam is the first step towards the goal of the P.E. after your name later in life. P.E. is Professional Engineer - licensed by the state in which you practice. After passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, administered by the NCEES, you will earn the Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
As you prepare for the fundamentals of engineering (FE) exam, you will need to get acclimated to the latest version of the FE Reference Handbook as you will be using this same document during the actual FE exam. Having a good understanding of how to navigate through the FE Reference Handbook is key to an effective and speedy testing experience. You can obtain the FE Reference Handbook pdf, for free, directly from NCEES. Below are the steps to get it.
Do not select the PE mechanical/chemical/industrial etc reference handbooks. The PE is a different exam that is taken later, after passing the FE exam. Instead, select the "FE Reference Handbook".
The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) is a nonprofit organization providing professional licensure for engineers and surveyors in the United States of America. The NCEES website provides exam information, options to purchase sample exam questions, and other free reference materials.

PPI was founded in 1975 by Michael R. Lindeburg, PE. He published the original Civil Engineering Reference Manual for the PE Exam that remains the standard for Civil PE exam preparation today. Over 4 million professionals have partnered with PPI to achieve licensure success and career advancement.
Now, it should be noted that my course was PE Civil Structural, so I have no first-hand experience with any of the FE courses or other PE subjects. I can confirm, however, that the course format and style is the same across exams and disciplines. In addition, I would venture to bet that the FE and other PE courses, materials, and instructors are of the same quality caliber as the PE course that I took.
With both the Live Online and OnDemand bundles, you will have access to the PPI Learning Hub. Through this eLearning platform, you will get a study plan and be able keep tabs on your strengths and weaknesses with a performance tracker. The Learning Hub also has hundreds of problems similar to those on the exam (in my discipline there were over 900), which are designed to help you master the various concepts.
If you are like me, working crazy hours while trying to prep for an exam, you will probably love the structure provided with this feature. I found the customized schedule to be extremely valuable in regards to helping me pace myself, from the onset of my studies through exam day.
In addition to the web books accessible through the Learning Hub, both the Live Online and the OnDemand bundles come with a boatload of print books. Personally, I am one of those learners who thrives with a real book in my hands, so I loved this.
Pay-as-you-go subscriptions for OnDemand courses have corresponding access periods. For example, if you purchase a 3-month OnDemand course, your access will cease at the end of 3 months (I know, duh, but just wanted to make clear).
The PPI2Pass Guarantee applies to all Live Online PE and FE courses. If you take a Live Online course and still fail an exam, you may come back and take the OnDemand course at no additional cost, with the PPI Learning Hub included as part of this guarantee. Of course, there are criteria that must be met for the pass guarantee to be valid, but nothing out of the ordinary.

We recommend taking the FE Exam during your final semester of your undergraduate program or within a year of graduating from your undergraduate program. This exam is comprised of fundamentals of engineering that you will have learned throughout your coursework, and to be prepared for the exam you will want to make sure you have completed the majority of your fundamental undergraduate coursework first. We also suggest planning to take the exam at least a month before you plan to attend the FSE Career Fair, as you will want to include that you passed the exam on your resume.
Besides specific calculators (review the NCEES Calculator Policy), the only resource allowed in the exam is the FE Reference Handbook, which is provided in a searchable PDF document to you by the NCEES during the exam. It is highly recommended that you download the FE Reference Manual from the NCEES ahead of time, in an effort to become familiar with the material before you take your exam. To download this handbook, visit ncees.org/FEref. NOTE: Students must register individually to receive their own copy of the reference handbook.
The NCEES FE Reference Handbook is the only reference material that can be used during the exam, and applies to all disciplines. You will be provided with an electronic reference handbook during the exam. For access prior to your exam, you may download a free electronic copy.
PART 3. Case studies, application of the tools, and process integration. In this section, we examine case studies that involve the assessment tools, and look more in depth at improving energy efficiency and reducing waste in continuous chemical processes. Process heat integration and pinch technology are discussed. 2b1af7f3a8
