In this project, we are going to use a separate password for each electrical line to be protected. The password is stored in an EEPROM, interfaced to the microcontroller and it can be changed any time. We can use any kind of microcontroller of our choice. In this project we are using an 8 bit microcontroller of 16f877A family. A keypad is used to enter the password, which is then compared with the predefined password. If the entered password is correct then the corresponding electrical line is turned ON or OFF. In order to make sure that the correct password is entered, another LED is used to indicate the wrong attempt. If the wrong attempt is made by the user for changing the password, an alert will be actuated, indicated by another LED. The system is fully controlled by the microcontroller. A VUSB based USB communication module is used for data transmission between the microcontroller and the main control unit. A small LED is used to indicate the connection between the microcontroller and the main control unit. A relay is also used for closing or opening the circuit breaker. The circuit is interfaced with the microcontroller using TTL level, using a RS232 level shifter circuit. An external power supply is used in this project.
